The biggest names in entertainment and fashion hit the red carpet to celebrate this year's theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

While (some) of the UK slept, over in Hollywood on the first Monday in May, a dazzling event was underway — it's that time again: the 2025 Met Gala. The annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gathered fashion and entertainment's biggest names to interpret this year's theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." Anna Wintour, Vogue's editor-in-chief who has curated the event since 1995, appointed actor Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams as this year's co-chairs.

The star-studded red carpet dazzled with Hollywood's finest — Rihanna (sporting a surprise baby bump!), Pamela Anderson (debuting a fresh haircut), Zendaya, Nicole Kidman, and Demi Moore — and the fashion was nothing short of spectacular. Read on to discover every show-stopping look from the 2025 Met Gala and learn more about the theme.

Superfine: Tailoring Black Style

Back in February, The Met unveiled the details for the 2025 Met Gala and The Costume Institute’s Spring Exhibition. This year, the theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style - exploring the importance of sartorial style to the formation of Black identities.

The exhibition and theme draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller's groundbreaking 2009 book "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity."

The exhibition is organized into 12 key sections exploring different aspects of dandy fashion, focusing on dress traditions in the United States and Europe: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook (social spaces for entertainment), Heritage, Beauty, Cool, and Cosmopolitanism.

The Met Gala celebrates Black dandyism, a powerful fashion movement where Black men embraced and elevated the dandy aesthetic with precise attention to grooming and tailoring. While dandyism in the 18th and 19th centuries was known for its emphasis on beauty and refinement, for Black men it became a form of cultural resistance and empowerment. Through their distinctive style, Black dandies challenged existing racial and social hierarchies, transforming fashion into a tool for social change.

Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour co-chaired The Met Gala® on May 5, 2025 (last night); and LeBron James served as honorary chair.

In addition to this year’s Met Gala co-chairs, The Met revived the longstanding tradition of a Host Committee, comprising actors, artists, athletes, designers, filmmakers, musicians, and writers, that supported the evening’s festivities. The committee members this year were André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens, Grace Wales Bonner, Jordan Casteel, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O. Harris, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Rashid Johnson, Regina King, Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, Audra McDonald, Janelle Monáe, Jeremy Pope, Angel Reese, Sha'Carri Richardson, Olivier Rousteing, Tyla, USHER, and Kara Walker.

Chef Kwame Onwuachi created The Met Gala menu and artist Cy Gavin provided the creative direction for the red carpet design, with other décor concepts led by Derek McLane and Raúl Àvila.

The dress code for the evening is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on suiting and menswear—from specific silhouettes to various fabrics and accessories—that is purposefully designed to both provide guidance and invite creative interpretation. Each year the dress code takes inspiration from the exhibition theme and references ideas explored in the show. The Costume Institute Benefit (also known as The Met Gala®) takes place annually on the first Monday in May and provides the department with its primary source of annual funding for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, operations, and capital improvements.

Every year, The Met Gala brings together cultural figures and style icons from across a wide array of fields to celebrate and support art and fashion. This spring’s event will mark the opening of the exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, a profoundly scholarly show centering an important legacy of Black-led sartorial innovation and creative expression that continues to inspire and shape our world today.
